These FAQs should cover some of the most common inquiries that you may have when considering a stay at Half of One.

Can the open fire be used

Yes but you need to collect your own logs from the large Co op in Portree (Woodpark Rd, IV51 9HQ) or Staffin stores

Are there plenty of crockery and glasses for 8 people

The house is very well stocked with regards kitchen/cooking ware and dining ware/glass ware and can easily accommodate 8 people having a couple of meals a day at the house

Can I bring my pet?

Well behaved dogs are welcome but as we are on a croft we are surrounded with sheep. Dogs must never be allowed to chase these sheep and therefore must be on leads or to heal at all times. If you have a particularly well-behaved dog then you can use your judgement but please don’t upset the local crofters with badly behaved dogs

What channels can I watch on the TV

The password for the Wi-Fi is on a sticker on the router and it is hard wired into the TV. If you want to user BBC, Netflix, Prime, Disney etc you will need to logon to the specific app for that provider with your own codes, There is no aerial at the house TV programs can only be watched through their specific apps.

How good is the wi-fi

You are in an incredibly remote location so if you came for the Wi-Fi you may have made the wrong choice! Notwithstanding there is a Wi-Fi router using a 4G data connection which has enough speed to stream movies and make calls but possibly not if too many users are accessing it at any one time.
The Wi-Fi does not extend to the studio unfortunately, you will need mobile data for the studio.

Are there any additional cleaning fees?

No, there are no additional cleaning fees. The total cost includes cleaning services post-departure.

Is there a maximum occupancy for the cottage?

The main house at Half of One comfortably sleeps up to 6 people. Additionally, there is a Studio next to the main house which can accommodate 2 more people, bringing the total maximum occupancy to 8 guests.
